The Weddington Planning Board unanimously recommended a text amendment to Section D 917A on April 27 to change terminology from “buildable area” to “buildable envelope” in tree requirements, clarifying where tree removal is allowed by right during development.
Staff and board members explained the edit is intended to more precisely describe the area within lot setbacks where a house pad may be located and where tree clearing by right is permitted, while protecting trees outside those buildable envelopes (such as in backyards and buffers). The board asked that the amendment include Jasleen’s illustrative graphic showing the buildable envelope and setback relationships to remove ambiguity for applicants and staff.
The board voted unanimously to accept the amendment with the inclusion of the graphic. Staff said the amendment will be forwarded to council with the exhibit to aid interpretation and consistent enforcement.
