Weddington accepts election results, swears in two new council members and sets 2026 meeting schedule

Weddington Town Council unanimously accepted the Union County Board of Elections official results from the Nov. 4 municipal election and administered oaths of office to newly elected council members on Dec. 8.
The council swore in Clayton Jones and Ellen F. McLofflin. After the recess and reconvening with the newly seated council, members unanimously adopted the town’s 2026 regular meeting schedule and the town hall holiday schedule. The council also appointed Thomas J. (Tom) Smith as Mayor Pro Tem and set delegate/alternate roles for regional bodies; the council confirmed delegate arrangements for CRPTO and related entities.
New council members offered brief remarks thanking staff and residents. Clayton Jones said he looked forward to working with staff and fellow council members, while Ellen McLofflin thanked staff for decorations and the work on development projects. The council also discussed scheduling a one‑day retreat/work session in February to set priorities for the coming year.
