The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 10 to provide a $500,000 PILT loan to the Bull Lake Rural Fire District to finish construction of its new station.
Bull Lake representatives and Commissioner Jim Hammonds described a multi-year local effort: donated land and equipment, volunteer labor, and contracted firefighting deployments that have generated revenue for the district. Commissioners said the new station will serve as a local resource center and improve emergency response for a growing area with new subdivisions.
The motion approved a $500,000 loan on the five-year amortization schedule presented at the meeting (2% interest and annual December payments). The board directed county staff to draft a contract using an existing PILT-loan template, arrange for a check to be issued for deposit and work with the fire district’s point of contact, Clyde, to finalize terms including an annual payment date (December). The Bull Lake representative said the district will use annual December payments because some wildfire reimbursement funds arrive in November.
The board emphasized the loan model helps preserve the PILT fund and allows the county to replenish the pool as payments are made; commissioners expressed strong support for the district’s performance and community value.
