Brian Head Town Council voted unanimously on May 12 to adopt Resolution No. 26‑574, extending the interlocal agreement between the town and the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency (RDA).
Town Manager Bret Howser summarized prior negotiations: Iron County approved extending its participation for ten years but requested reducing its contribution level from 60% of tax increment to 30%, a change with an approximate annual fiscal impact of $67,500 to the RDA. Howser said the Iron County Commission approved its portion of the interlocal agreement earlier that morning. He also noted the Iron County School District has indicated willingness to discuss participation but its finance committee will not meet until August, which places any school-district decision outside the current property tax cycle.
Howser described the RDA as a strategic tool for supporting future commercial development, including the potential for a skier base village, and noted the town has land that could be used for a parking or infrastructure project tied to development. Council Member Larry Freeberg moved to adopt Resolution No. 26‑574; Council Member Logan Cruz seconded and the motion carried 5‑0.
The Council recessed and convened as the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency Board to consider the companion resolution; the board adopted the same resolution by a 5‑0 vote.
Next steps: With the county's amended contribution terms and the potential for school-district participation later in the year, town staff will proceed under the adopted interlocal agreement and track potential revenue changes resulting from the county's reduced percentage.
