Laconia School Board honors retirees, approves CTE credentialing award and LHS Boston trip

The Laconia School Board on June 2 recognized multiple retiring teachers and support staff and approved two routine items: a district application to repurpose Perkins Reserve funds for industry-recognized Career and Technical Education credentials, and a make-up field trip to Boston for the Laconia High School band.
Interim Superintendent Hines opened the presentation portion of the meeting and asked Principal Johnson to introduce Andrea Morren of Elm Street School, who was honored for 39 years in education, including 33 in Laconia. "She's helped mentor new teachers in our building," Johnson said, noting Morren ran the school store, advised student council and led math teams.
The board also honored Lauren Leardo of the high school special-education department for her district service and recognized a second group of support-staff retirees from the SAU office and maintenance and administrative teams. The board presented gifts and photographs and observed a standing ovation.
During the business portion, the board voted to accept a Perkins Reserve grant award for industry-recognized CTE credentials for students. The district reported the award in the meeting record but the numeric amount is unclear in the transcript (the record shows “$82,37520”); the board approved the grant by voice vote recorded as 7-0. The board then approved a make-up field trip to Boston for the high-school band; Premier Bus Company is reimbursing the original ticket cost from the earlier trip problem, the district said. That motion also passed 7-0.
Public comment produced no speakers in person or on Zoom. The meeting concluded with routine committee reports, staff updates and an adjournment at approximately 6:39 p.m.
The board's next meetings and committee schedules were noted during the meeting; staffing and contract matters were scheduled for further discussion at the June 10 budget and personnel meeting and at the full board meeting on June 16.
