The Texas City Commission approved an ordinance to amend the fiscal-year 2025–2026 budget and transfer funds from the dike fund balance to maintenance accounts for parks, streets finance and public works.
Jack Harrelson, who presented the item, said maintenance and repairs of the dike typically are funded from the dike account, which receives fees for non‑resident usage. "We collect about 1,000,000 dollars a year in ticket sales," Harrelson said, and the fund has been self‑sufficient. He explained the transfer was requested because some repairs are more extensive than the standard operating budget can handle.
Commissioners asked for details about the repairs: Harrelson cited solar lights damaged by salt air and seagull activity and said the plan will focus first on the worst‑condition fixtures rather than replacing all at once. He also acknowledged boat ramps silt in frequently and said crews would address the most critical areas for summertime use.
Commissioner Knox moved to approve the ordinance and Commissioner Delgado seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
