Clarkdale commission weighs grant options to fund bandstand sign, markers and outreach

Commissioners reviewed a list of grant opportunities to support historic markers, a bandstand sign project, and education and outreach efforts. Staff presented several grant samples and identified one—Pomeroy One Foundation—as a potential source that would fully fund a bandstand plaque if Clarkdale qualifies.
The commission discussed other possible sources, including the Arizona Community Foundation (and a local Yavapai County affiliate), the Johanna Favrot Fund (which may target national landmarks), the Palmer Eye Foundation (noted for publicity), and National Trust preservation funds for outreach. Commissioners noted some grants are restricted to nonprofit applicants and discussed partnering with the museum as an eligible nonprofit applicant.
Members emphasized that many construction-related grants require a completed project proposal and, in some cases, matching funds from the town or private sponsors. Staff summarized the matching process: the commission could apply for a grant and, contingent on award, request a town council line item as a match. Commissioners also suggested private-sponsor models ("adopt-a-marker") to secure local matching funds and recognition on markers.
The commission agreed to further research which grants specifically match the bandstand-sign project and to include grant-seeking as a goal in the strategic plan. Staff said it will filter the grant material and present prioritized opportunities at the next meeting.
