Facilities staff reported progress on several district capital projects and provided summer construction schedules. The district said Hopkins Gym is in design development with a preservation‑commission review planned and that site regrading is underway to reuse on‑site soils and reduce hauling costs.
A Tatum redesign will preserve the existing garden areas while adding a plaza; cupola replacement and window projects are scheduled for review and summer bidding. Central Elementary interior alteration is roughly 40% complete and on track for a mid‑August finish, district staff said.
The board then moved to its voting session and approved a slate of curriculum, personnel and finance items. Consent approvals included adoption of reading units of study, the Fundations pilot, adoption of Clifter (a cursive handwriting program), acceptance of awarded state grants (including universal screener and IDEA grant submissions), and multiple contract renewals and RFP awards for construction testing, custodial services and professional services. The board also recorded retirements, substitute hires and summer‑season personnel coverage in the personnel section.
District staff cautioned that some projects are long‑lead items (windows and cupola) and outlined a July bid-and‑award timeline with planned foundations work before winter. No substantial changes to project scopes were adopted at the meeting; board members moved to authorize staff to finalize contracts and proceed with the summer schedule.
