Malden BPW hears water/wastewater equipment problems and power-plant year-end update

Public Works Superintendent Kurt Krepps and Power Plant Superintendent Drew Miller updated the Malden Board of Public Works on operations at the May 27 meeting.
Krepps said an electric pump is still being configured by two technicians and the utility is using a regular enclosed diesel pump in the meantime. He reported the J Hwy lift station is awaiting about "three to four small component parts" that were ordered in October; until the parts arrive the station is limited. Heavy rain has filled manholes and, though pumps are operating, they are unable to handle the full inflow. Krepps also said the lagoon pivot was struck by lightning again, which "fried all the circuits and fuses."
Power Plant Superintendent Drew Miller said end-of-fiscal-year projects are complete and that crews will spend the next months conducting oil sampling for the units and performing summer capability runs. Board Secretary Cathy Merritt reminded the board that scheduled disconnects for nonpayment are set for Thursday.
Board members did not take separate formal action on operational repairs during the meeting; staff reported parts procurement and temporary measures in place to maintain service.
