Byram Township officials told residents on April 7 that New Jersey law now requires public entities to publish legal notices online instead of in printed newspapers, effective March 1, 2026.
Municipal Clerk Cynthia Church explained that legal notices previously published in newspapers will be posted on the township's official website (https://www.byramtwp.org) and archived for the legally required period. During a 2026 transition period the minutes note that notices directing the public to the website may also appear in online news publications. Church provided an email contact for assistance: CChurch@byramtwp.org.
The change is framed in the minutes as intended to increase public access, transparency and to reduce publication costs. The township advised residents that the State of New Jersey will maintain a centralized online directory linking participating public entities' notice pages.
