Parks staff updated the Arts, Recreation and Culture Committee that the infrastructure for a citywide public-art "turtle crawl" is nearly finished and installations will begin Dec. 19.
"They're almost done with all the concrete pads," a staff member said. "All the sites are spec'd out, and they're going to be installing the turtles on December 19 all over the city." Staff also said plaques with QR codes have been produced and will be installed with the sculptures.
Because the project represents a substantial investment, staff said they are trying to add the sculptures to the city’s insurance policy to ensure coverage after installation. The committee asked staff to share the installation list so members can preview locations and provide local oversight or publicity support.
The committee also discussed social-media outreach and using video snippets of the artist pouring molds, which staff said they could repurpose for promotion.
