The Atlantic Beach Environmental Stewardship Committee used its May 13 meeting to finalize internal assignments and approve several community-facing activities.
The committee accepted lead assignments for FY27 and set internal deadlines for draft inputs (June 2) and final inputs (June 30). The group also endorsed a schedule change announced in a staff email: moving from two full committee meetings per month to one regular monthly meeting plus a separate monthly tree subcommittee meeting intended to concentrate tree-related business and reduce chair workload.
Community outreach and events: Members approved an upcoming film screening on May 28 at the Adele Grange Theater and voted to host Atlantic Beach–only Minecraft education activities and an interactive charrette to gather ideas for the Marsh Oaks Community Center. Committee members said the Minecraft activity is intended to engage local students and the community in center planning.
Stormwater and budget notes: The committee voted to forward preliminary recommendations to be included in the scope for the city’s updated master stormwater management plan (a $300,000 grant-funded effort). Staff also reported that the city is considering ESE priorities in the general fund budget and proposed $2,500 be made available to the committee for outreach and small events.
Procedure: Motions approving the project leads, Minecraft activities and stormwater recommendations were adopted by voice vote; minutes from prior meetings were approved as part of the consent agenda. The meeting ended after brief member updates and an announcement of future agenda items.
