Auburn Township swears in commissioners, approves routine appointments as new municipal building opens

Kirk Ferguson, the township manager, called the Board of Commissioners of Auburn Township to order for its reorganization meeting and said it was his “distinct pleasure” to preside as newly elected members were sworn in. Ferguson said the board would accept nominations for president and vice president after incumbents were sworn and installed.
A clerk administered the oath of office and multiple newly elected commissioners recited the pledge to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the commonwealth and to discharge their duties with fidelity. Ira Dekelman, identified in introductions as commissioner for Ward 3, and others were congratulated after taking the oath.
During officer nominations, a committee member nominated Myra Chapelle for president and another committee member nominated Deryn Berlinger for vice president. “I nominate Myra Chapelle for president,” the committee member said. The nominations were put to voice vote and were approved by the board.
The board handled several routine appointments. A motion to appoint the township solicitor (as spoken in the meeting) passed by voice vote. The board also approved the appointment of Tom Fallon as the township engineer after a motion and a second were called; members voiced their support. For treasurer, the board nominated Michael Klein and confirmed him by roll-call vote; during the roll call members answered in the affirmative (members named during the roll call included Harris, Gerald and Harvey).
Board members said committee assignments from the prior year will remain unchanged and reported that the township and police have moved into and are fully operational in the new municipal building. The board scheduled its next stated meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
With no further business, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
