Residents raise camera privacy, ditch work and community service needs during public comment

During public comment, several residents and community members addressed the council on distinct local issues.

Surveillance cameras and privacy Matthew Tindle urged the council to investigate so‑called 'flock' cameras, saying he filed public‑information requests to learn who owns and installed them and warning they can be hacked and abused. He asked that access to camera systems require warrants or for the cameras to be removed if privacy safeguards are not in place.

Sidewalks and ditching concerns Albert Harrison described ditch‑mopping work on Ashley Street and said removing walkways across ditches has blocked pedestrian paths and created safety concerns for residents. He said he had raised the issue with a city engineer identified as Mr. Anderson and asked staff to review decisions on which ditches were cleared and how walkways were removed.

Community services and contracts Joyce Moore Newwell thanked library staff and sought clarification about the city’s agreement with Capital Edge Advocacy — how the contract fits with the absence of an economic‑development director, its length and cost. She also requested a consolidated referrals resource for youth services so community members can more easily find local programs.

Veterans programs and community events Seth Wells of American Legion Post 33 promoted a veterans' 'Second Fridays' buddy‑check lunch and highlighted an upcoming event recognizing Women Veterans Day.

Council members noted staff would follow up on citizen requests — staff later referred several items to public works, police or finance for follow up and reported that ditching is being done on a planned schedule and that staff will take specific complaints into account to reduce mobilization costs.
