Board approves Garfield renovation contracts and district reconfiguration; TEN amendment capped at $1.76M

The Greater Johnstown Board of School Directors on May 5 approved a set of capital and operations measures that reconfigure the district’s grade assignments and advance renovation and technology upgrades at the Garfield campus.
Kimberly Murray moved, and the board approved, an instruction for the administration to reconfigure buildings so that Greater Johnstown High School houses grades 9–12 (222 Central Ave.), Garfield Middle School houses grades 7–8, East Side Intermediate houses grades 4–6, and Greater Johnstown Elementary houses K–3 (BO-44-26). The motion passed by recorded vote.
The board awarded a data-cabling quote to Link Computer Corporation for $89,398 (E‑Rate funds) and a camera system contract to DirecTec LLC for $205,114.66 (CoStars) for the Garfield campus (BO-45-26; BO-46-26). The board also approved elevator maintenance agreements covering multiple schools (BO-47-26).
On renovation contracting, the board approved Amendment #6 with TEN (The Efficiency Network) for Garfield School renovation at a cost not to exceed $1,763,357 (BO-50-26). Earlier in the meeting TEN reported Phase 3 work is on schedule with Phase 3 cost noted at $880,647; Phase 4 was described as a potential future scope.
Why it matters: The reconfiguration alters where grade bands will be housed and authorizes capital work and equipment intended to ready Garfield for continued use. The TEN amendment represents a material capital authorization for renovation.
Next steps: Administration will manage contract execution, E‑Rate funding usage, and the planned ramp-up of construction activity during June–August.
