The Sarasota City Commission moved to fill a single vacancy on the Newtown CRA Advisory Board and reached consensus to select Charles Walker after nominations from commissioners.
Vice Mayor nominated Charles Walker, saying he preferred Walker among three remaining candidates after noting Mr. Williams is better suited for the Human Relations Board. "I nominate Charles Walker," the Vice Mayor said. Commissioner Battee seconded the nomination. Commissioners expressed general support and the Mayor welcomed Walker to the advisory board. The selection was recorded by consensus; no roll-call vote appears in the transcript.
The commission had four applicants for the opening. The Vice Mayor said Mr. Williams was the only applicant for the Human Relations Board and indicated a preference to keep him there; of the remaining three candidates the Vice Mayor nominated Walker and the commission agreed. The Mayor asked staff to proceed with finalizing appointment paperwork and welcomed Charles Walker.
Next steps: city staff will complete appointment formalities and notify the new advisory-board member.
