The Public Art Committee approved a tentative FY27 public art work plan and budget that sets proposed allocations across program categories and positions projects for the city budget workshops later this year.
Staff outlined the work plan and proposed allocations, including $150,000 for mural initiatives, $100,000 for neighborhood and community initiatives, an increased allocation for sculpture initiatives to support a Bayfront temporary exhibit, an education and information line supporting internships and workshops, and a $200,000 maintenance/support allocation for the collection (reduced from $250,000 the prior year). Staff also described the program's reliance on developer-contributed public art funds, carryover purchase orders and a projected minimum fiscal-year 2027 equity of roughly $2.6 million after accounting for encumbrances.
Committee members discussed diversifying funding sources, including possible grant development, and emphasized balancing local artistic identity with developer-funded projects. After discussion the committee voted to approve the tentative budget for advancement to city leadership and the public budget workshop schedule.
