The Sarasota Public Art Committee voted to accept a permanent composite artwork by the Petticoat Painters, approving $8,000 to cover materials, installation, enhanced lighting allowance, a plaque and $250 honoraria for each of the 24 artists.
Staff told the committee the piece, titled "Now You See Us," would be installed on the third-floor wall of the City One Stop Shop directly across from the elevator, and that each of the 24 participating artists would receive a $250 honorarium. Janice Newman, introduced as president of the Petticoat Painters, described the group's founding in 1953 and said the composite work will honor the exhibition and participating artists.
Committee members asked about activation and programming tied to the installation, and staff said they are planning a dedication and rotating exhibits to help make the One Stop Shop a more visible art destination. The committee moved, seconded and approved the proposal; the motion was recorded in the public record as moved by Member Clyburn and seconded by Member Park and the measure passed by voice vote as unanimous.
The committee indicated staff will coordinate installation logistics, finalize honoraria disbursement and work with Facilities on any needed track lighting. A closing reception for the Petticoat Painters exhibit will be held at City Hall; staff invited committee members to attend.
