City to raise Lido Beach dunes, replace two walkovers with ADA‑compliant structures; project funded by tourism tax and state grants

Newhouse said raising the dunes by about 2 feet would improve storm protection from approximately a 10‑year event to a 25‑year event. He estimated the dune work would require about 75 days of truck hauling, planting and maintenance; the dune work is funded roughly 50/50 by the tourist development tax and Florida Department of Environmental Protection grants and the estimated dune cost is about $700,000.
Staff told the committee they are coordinating with contractors to address survey, CCCL/mean‑high‑water determinations and any necessary permit or exemption letters before construction. Reviewers noted standard requirements for showing erosion‑control lines, benchmarks and vertical coordinate systems on the plans; Public Works said they are addressing those items with the contractor.
