The Sarasota City General Employees Pension Plan Board of Trustees unanimously approved an early-retirement request for Robert Viverka at its April 23, 2026 meeting.
Miss Martin, the board clerk, said the request lists an effective retirement date of April 1, 2026; Viverka was reported as age 62 with 19.18 years of service and has elected a 66 and 2/3 percent joint annuitant option with the ability to change the joint annuitant. Trustees discussed how early‑retirement factors will be calculated by the plan actuary and clarified that packet details are available for review in the plan office.
The approval was moved and seconded and recorded as passing unanimously. Chair Chaplin cast an affirmative vote to complete the motion.
Why it matters: The board must approve early-retirement elections to confirm benefit options and trigger actuarial calculations that affect both the retiree and plan accounting. Trustees noted that detailed actuarial factors are available on request and that staff will continue to provide fuller packet access while the board adapts to online/ADA posting requirements.
Additional context: Trustees briefly discussed where Viverka worked (public works / fleet/garage) while confirming the personnel and benefit details. If trustees want to review the full actuarial detail, Miss Martin said the information is available in the plan office.
