The City Commission approved a 15% raise March 23 for the City Auditor & Clerk, the combined charter position currently held by Griggs.
Human Resources staff presented a market comparison that showed the Sarasota position combines duties — records custody, elections, internal audit oversight, pensions and broadcasting oversight — that in many nearby jurisdictions are split among multiple roles. HR recommended a 10–15% increase; commissioners debated and ultimately approved a 15% increase, describing it as a move to align pay with duties and retain experienced leadership.
The motion passed unanimously after commissioners recognized Griggs’ role in the recent Workday payroll and records modernization, her management of elections and public records duties, and the additional, temporary recruitment duties she supported for the city manager search. The commission asked staff to record the change in the payroll system and to report on any departmental budget impacts.
