Jon Griffel, president of the Carlinville Chamber of Commerce, presented the Chamber’s plans for a June 26, 2026 Jubilee and requested temporary road closures and an open-container allowance for the event.
Council members discussed the logistics Griffin described, including closing three-quarters of the downtown square, extending closures down East Main to the courthouse and along S. East Street, while leaving space for businesses to access the backs of their properties. Alderman Link moved to approve the road-closure and open-container request; Alderman Brockmeier seconded and the motion passed unanimously (6-0).
Griffel also requested $10,000 in support for the event. Alderman Link moved to provide the Chamber with $10,000 from the tourism fund; Alderman Brockmeier seconded, and the council approved the funding unanimously (6-0).
Next steps: The Chamber will proceed with event planning under the approved road-closure and funding arrangement; the council did not attach additional conditions in the meeting record.
