Carlinville council approves demolition of 516 Anderson, rejects $10,997 audio-system bid

The City of Carlinville City Council on June 2 approved a contract to demolish 516 Anderson Street and voted down a proposal to buy a new audio system that would have enabled livestreaming of meetings.
At the meeting, Alderman Link moved and Alderman LeVora seconded a motion to accept Demuzio Excavating Inc.'s bid of $3,650 to demolish and restore the site at 516 Anderson Street; the motion passed unanimously, 8-0. The contract covers demolition, site clearing, foundation removal, grading, drainage and site restoration.
The meeting also included routine approvals. Alderman Ober moved to approve both sets of previous minutes, seconded by Alderman Wagstaff; that motion passed unanimously, 8-0. Alderman LeVora moved to approve the bills, seconded by Alderman Reese; that motion also passed unanimously, 8-0.
Under correspondence, the council acknowledged a letter from Bill and Dick McClain regarding the removal of planters on the square. During public comment, Dick McClain spoke about the removal of the planters, raising the issue for the council to note.
Alderman Reichmann moved, and Alderman Wagstaff seconded, to accept Illini Tech's $10,997 bid for a new audio system to livestream council meetings; the motion failed, 2-6. The minutes do not record individual roll-call votes by name, only the tally.
Mayor Doug Downey and City Clerk Mary Heller signed the record at adjournment. The council adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
