Votes at a glance: Williston approves liquor licenses, PACE incentives, childcare grants and appointments

The Williston Board of City Commissioners on July 22 approved a series of routine motions by unanimous vote, including liquor licenses, economic incentive buydowns, childcare grants and board appointments.
Licenses: The commission approved an Event Center On-Sale Beer & Liquor license for Great Northern Events (202 1st Ave E Ste. 102), an On-Sale Beer & Liquor license for The Mustang Room (202 1st Ave E Ste. 003) and a Domestic Winery license for 202 Brix (202 1st Ave E Ste. 112). Staff and the Liquor & Licensing Committee had reviewed and recommended approval for each application; approvals were recorded as pending legal review.
Economic incentives: The Board approved Flex PACE buydown applications for four local projects: Baha Petroleum (hydrovac trucks; buydown not to exceed $15,000), Twin Peaks Electrical (purchase of building; buydown not to exceed $73,000), WPR LLC/Pizza Ranch (permanent financing following construction; buydown not to exceed $98,000), and Williston Window Tint (new building construction; buydown not to exceed $38,000). The motion to approve the Flex PACE applications was moved by Commissioner Brad Bekkedahl and seconded by Commissioner Victoria Siemieniewski and passed 5-0.
Childcare grants: The STAR Fund Board recommended and the commission approved a $5,500 Childcare Match Grant for Little Learners Preschool and a $17,050 Childcare Expansion Grant for Little Scholars Preschool (the latter to add 33 spaces after the rehab/remodel of First Lutheran Church). The commission moved and seconded the grant approvals and recorded unanimous votes.
Finance and appointments: Finance Director Hercules Cummings presented the semi-annual review of pledged collateral required by North Dakota Century Code; the commission accepted the review. The Board also approved appointments: Jeff Bloemker to the STAR Fund Board, Cyndy Aafedt to a five-year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and nine two-year appointments to the Downtown Design Review Board, all by unanimous voice vote.
All items listed above passed by roll or voice vote and were recorded as carried with five affirmative votes. The meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m.
