Williston OKs emergency purchase up to $55,000 for police patrol vehicle
Summary
Following an August wreck that totaled a patrol vehicle, the commission approved an emergency out-of-budget purchase from Nelson Auto Center (Red Rock Ford fleet contractor) not to exceed $55,000 to replace the vehicle immediately.
City Administrator Shawn Wenko told the commission that a patrol vehicle was totaled in August and replacement vehicles typically take months to locate. Nelson Auto Center, the vendor holding the State of North Dakota fleet contract for emergency vehicles, had an appropriate unit in stock. Wenko requested authorization for an out‑of‑budget emergency purchase not to exceed $55,000.
Commissioner Brad Bekkedahl moved to approve the out‑of‑budget purchase and Commissioner Lucas Gjovig seconded. The motion passed 5–0 on voice vote.
The approval authorizes staff to proceed with procurement from Nelson Auto Center under the fleet contract so the Williston Police Department can return to standard vehicle levels while staff continue normal fleet-replacement planning.
