Williston approves Flex PACE buydowns, $100,000 community grant request and childcare expansion funding

The commission approved three Flex PACE buydown applications (Hydrostatic $50,000; Selid Mechanical $83,000; Spectrum Industries Rental $58,000), a $100,000 community grant request for Williston State College–TrainND Northwest contingent on Commerce funding, and a $17,050 childcare expansion grant creating 40 new spaces.
Finance and Grant Coordinator Brenda Schmidt presented multiple economic-development items Oct. 28 and the commission approved each by voice vote.
The commission approved three Flex PACE buydown requests: Hydrostatic, LLC (buydown not to exceed $50,000); Selid Mechanical (not to exceed $83,000); and Spectrum Industries Rental (not to exceed $58,000). Flex PACE is a local buydown program the City uses to support acquisition or expansion of existing businesses.
Schmidt also presented a Community Grant application from Williston State College–TrainND Northwest seeking $100,000 to support a new trades training program covering HVAC, electrical, plumbing and facilities management. The commission approved the request contingent on the College receiving matching funds from the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
Finally, the commission approved a $17,050 childcare expansion grant for Learning Adventures Childcare–Stony Creek; the project creates 40 new licensed child-care spaces and has capacity to expand to 85 children in total, according to the application.
Motions to approve the Flex PACE applications and the grants were unanimous (5–0). The approvals allow staff to proceed with grant processing and next steps tied to program conditions and state matching requirements.
