Lewiston Fire Chief pins badges, swears in new firefighters and promotions

Lewiston Fire Chief Greg Reitmeier led a badge‑pinning and oath of office ceremony during the City Council meeting on June 8, recognizing promotions and recent hires in the Lewiston Fire Department.
"One of the greatest things I get to do is to recognize our firefighters and for the wonderful job they do out in our community, day in and day out," Reitmeier said as he described promotions to engineer, the addition of a fire investigator in the prevention division and several new and reserve firefighters. He administered the oath of office and explained that an engineer’s single bugle denotes the first level of company officer authority.
Named during the ceremony were Jonathan Sells (promoted to engineer), Investigator Perez (fire prevention investigator), EJ (promoted from reserve to firefighter), Firefighter O'Shaughnessy, Nicholas (Nick) Canto, Harry Hobbs and Joe Anderson (promoted to company officer), among others. Reitmeier said the department also recognized families who pinned badges and that the city gives a small token to significant others to acknowledge the time families invest in personnel studying for promotions.
The chief emphasized the prevention division’s role in public education and origin/cause investigations and thanked staff and family members for their support.
The council applauded the department and Mayor Johnson offered the council’s congratulations.
