Veterans Affairs reports 57 signed for fishing derby and books September Warrior Flight

Barbara Forman, representing Veterans Affairs, briefed the Community Services Committee on recent veterans programming and partnerships.
Forman said the department hosted a fishing derby that registered 57 veterans and drew more than 100 attendees. She credited volunteers from the Gadugi/Godogee program, Natural Resources, EMS and the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for support and described the event as a family occasion. "We had 57 veterans sign up for our fishing derby," Forman said.
Forman also said the department has booked a Warrior Flight scheduled Sept. 15–18 and that staff details and participant lists will be shared with the committee once staffing is confirmed. She described follow‑up plans for at least one veteran who left a prior send‑off early because of a family vehicle crash and said the department will contact him to check whether he can participate in a later trip.
Councilors thanked Forman and the department for partnerships that support veterans and for coordination with other departments. Forman noted the department works closely with other agencies and community organizations when staging events for veterans.
The committee received the report; no committee action was taken during this agenda item.
