Diane Kelly, director of career services, told the Cherokee Nation Education Committee that a recent review by the Dallas Regional Office included mostly minor findings and that the U.S. House had voted not to eliminate Job Corps, noting bipartisan support.
"They voted, it was bipartisan, and they said that Job Corps was gonna be around a while," Kelly said, describing site visits and follow-up actions taken after inspectors noted items ranging from business-card availability to lighting on campus.
Kelly said the program has recruitment momentum — "We made number 1 in recruitment" — and warned that the new fiscal year beginning July 1 could bring budget pressures requiring program adjustments. She described workforce placements such as welders and pipefitters tied to shipbuilding opportunities, and short-term culinary training intended to support elderly nutrition centers.
On nursing programs, Kelly said the registered-nurse (RN) training will move into higher education while licensed practical nurse (LPN) and certified nursing assistant (CNA) training will remain with vocational services. She added that responsibilities tied to the previous "payback" program will shift to higher-education staff (Aaron and Rachel Fletcher).
Committee members asked for clarification on rankings and contacts for program oversight; Kelly confirmed the Job Corps ranking mentioned in the report and directed specific program questions about LPN/CNA contacts to staff for follow-up.
The committee took no separate formal action on this report; members were invited to follow up with staff for details and a summer-youth participation report expected at the end of the month.
