The Middlesex County School Board approved a series of administrative and policy actions during its June 8 session.
The board voted by voice to approve the amended agenda early in the meeting. It approved the first reading of a set of policy revisions recommended through the Virginia School Boards Association update process and later approved Policy IKEA (middle school mathematics placement and acceleration) on its second reading.
The board approved the Virginia Public School Authority (VPSA) FY2027 reimbursement resolution after Superintendent Dr. Burnett explained that VDOE requires the board to sign the resolution in June so purchasing can begin in July and the bond is issued the following May. The board also approved a Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) policy service agreement intended to support drafting and implementing policy and legislative changes.
Under new business the board approved a motion designating the assistant superintendent as the superintendent's designee. The board moved into a closed session "pursuant to the Code of Virginia" to discuss personnel, student and legal matters, then returned to open session, certified by motion that only lawfully exempted matters were discussed (roll call affirmative). The consent agenda, which included minutes, budget and financial reports, enrollment reports, a budget supplement request, fundraising requests, facilities-use applications and approval of the superintendent's contract, was approved by voice vote. The meeting then adjourned.
Where the transcript recorded explicit motion language, the minutes show motions were moved and seconded and passed by voice vote; roll-call was used only to certify the legality of the closed session discussion.
