City approves 2024 lot-mowing assessments covering 147 parcels totaling about $81,738

The Williston Board of City Commissioners approved the 2024 lot-mowing and code compliance assessments Oct. 8, a package that includes 147 parcels and totals approximately $81,738.02.
Kent Jarcik, City Planner, said the Special Assessment Commission met and unanimously approved the assessments. No property demolition or code-compliance assessments were proposed for 2024. The public did not appear to protest the proposed assessments during the hearing.
Commissioner Tate Cymbaluk asked whether the city could deny contractors who are not in compliance from performing work that would generate assessments. "As of now as the ordinance is written we cannot deny them," City Attorney Jordon Evert said, adding that Development Services would need to amend municipal ordinances to change that practice.
The motion to approve the lot mowing assessments carried 5-0.
The assessments are one-year charges placed on parcels and, if not paid, will be collected as described in the assessment procedure; the commission did not adopt any immediate changes to the enforcement authority or contractor eligibility at this meeting.
