Fox River Grove staff recommends ordinance change to offset rising plan-review fees

Village staff informed the Board April 3 that the contractor the village uses for plan review and permit inspections, B&F Technical Codes, has notified the village of an additional fee increase effective May 1, 2025. Administrator Soderholm said the village has contracted with B&F for those services and that the firm "has held their fees for quite some time, but instituted an increase a couple years ago and has communicated another increase effective May 1, 2025."
Staff recommended the board consider adjusting local plan-review and permit fees so village revenue covers the contractor increase. Trustee Devin Hester asked whether the higher fees would deter proposed new development; Administrator Soderholm stated his view that the increases would not negatively affect new development under consideration in the village.
Trustee Hester moved to recommend staff add a draft ordinance amending portions of the code related to plan reviews, building permits, and inspections for approval at a future meeting. Trustee Melissa Schladt seconded; a voice vote was unanimous in favor. The board did not adopt the ordinance at the April 3 meeting but directed staff to place the draft ordinance on a future agenda for formal consideration.
