Williston approves rezoning of Northview lots to heavy industrial

The Williston Board of City Commissioners approved a comprehensive plan amendment and a zone change on Jan. 13 that reclassifies Lots 1 and 3 of the Northview Subdivision from Low Density Residential and (A) Agriculture to Industrial and (M-2) Heavy Industrial.
Lisa Weidner, staff planner, told commissioners the parcels are adjacent to existing industrially zoned land along 55th Street West and that the nearest residence sits about 550 feet away and separated by the roadway and a 150-foot right of way. Weidner said topography and surrounding uses made the proposed land-use change appropriate.
Commission President Klug opened the public hearing and, after three solicitations, closed it when no one spoke. Commissioner Siemieniewski moved to approve the zone change; Commissioner Gjovig seconded. The motion passed 5–0. A separate motion to approve the comprehensive plan amendment also passed by the same vote.
The approvals amend the city’s future land-use designation and zoning maps for the two parcels to accommodate heavier industrial uses. No conditions or dissent were recorded during the hearing; commissioners cited consistency with surrounding industrial parcels in the area.
