Dustin Barron, Bonneville County assessor, told the Ammon City Council on Feb. 12 that the county evaluates about 67,000 properties each year and places each property on a five-year full-valuation cycle.
Barron explained to council members and staff how assessments are calculated and why residential and commercial properties are valued differently. He emphasized that inspectors consider many factors beyond bedroom and bathroom counts when establishing comparable sales and determining assessed value.
According to Barron, the county’s approach is intended to produce regular updates to valuation data across neighborhoods while acknowledging that direct comparisons between houses in different subdivisions can be misleading. No formal action or vote followed the presentation.
