The Sawyer County Zoning Committee conditionally accepted a certified survey map involving the exterior boundary of an existing county subdivision plat and moved on to updates on the county’s tourist-rooming (TR) ordinance and town communications.
Staff said the Eugene Ramsy CSM met current zoning requirements and had no identified issues on preliminary review; the committee approved conditional acceptance. The committee then heard an update from the TR ad hoc committee, which said a revised draft ordinance will be considered in its next meeting and may be forwarded to Health & Human Services rather than handled solely through zoning. Committee and town representatives discussed enforcement capacity, staffing and how permit fees might fund enforcement if the county requires retroactive or additional permitting for hundreds of existing TRs.
A formal letter from the Sawyer County unit of the Wisconsin Towns Association prompted discussion about town notice and timing: towns asked that staff reports, DNR letters and application materials arrive with enough lead time before town plan commission and board meetings; staff agreed to reach out to towns and target sending information at least five business days before town commission meetings in order to improve local review and decision-making.
No final vote was taken on TR ordinance changes; staff said draft language on holding-tank rules and TR occupancy would return to the committee for review.
