District technology staff recommended renewal of the LineWise CIPA-compliant web filter used to maintain eligibility for federal E-Rate discounts and to meet the Children’s Internet Protection Act requirements. Staff explained three CIPA elements the district must maintain: an acceptable use policy, technology-protection measures (filters), and public notice with board opportunity for comment.
Mr. Thompson, seated in the meeting room, noted an upcoming Indiana law requiring parents to be able to control Internet access on take-home devices provided by the district; staff said LineWise includes a module to enable that parental-control feature this fall and requested renewal of the LineWise contract so the district can comply with new state requirements.
After a motion and second, the board approved the renewal of the LineWise web-filtering service. Staff did not provide contract dollar amounts during the oral presentation; the motion approved renewal as presented in the packet.
Staff emphasized the renewal is tied to federal E-Rate program rules and to state law changes regarding parental-control requirements on take-home devices.
