Staff presented four nominees and the reasons cited in nomination forms: Togo’s for customer service and reputation; Discount Cigarettes for longevity and stability; Grocery Outlet for community engagement and financial support for local organizations; and La Tortuga restaurant for longevity (operating in Seaside since 1999). Chair Anderson nominated Grocery Outlet, citing its community involvement and an upcoming hunger campaign that could align with the July honoree recognition. The motion to nominate Grocery Outlet passed with no opposition.
Commissioners discussed logistics for the honor; staff said the July honoree will be highlighted during the July 11 Monterey Bay FC game. Commissioners also noted the program is new and that the commission would refine the process as they move forward.
Staff will coordinate the honoree’s recognition at the July event and follow up with any ribbon-cutting or promotional details.
