Mayor Walker announces monthly "clean sweep" operations in York City

Mayor Walker announced that York City will hold monthly "clean sweep" operations on the fourth Wednesday of each month from April through October, urging residents to help keep neighborhoods clean.

The announcement, which Mayor Walker framed as part of his "clean, green, and proud" initiatives, described the program as an effort to address blight and improve quality of life in city neighborhoods. "We are tackling blight and cleaning up our streets," the mayor said.

Michelle Diggs, the city's property maintenance inspector supervisor, invited volunteers and staff to join the sweeps and gave specific details for the next operation. "Join us today for a clean sweep. We're going to be working in the area of West Cottage Place through West Maple Street between Cleveland Avenue and Jessop Place," Diggs said, adding that teams would look for high grass and weeds, trash accumulation, missing address markers, abandoned vehicles, and vehicles on unimproved surfaces.

Organizers said participants would break into teams of two for the neighborhood canvass; one organizer named pairs including Pat and Anthony, and Shauna and Matt, and said the organizer would join Shauna and Matt.
