County staff report move-ins to new services center; annex on track for mid-May completion

Rick Gillespie, Pendleton County Emergency Services Coordinator, told the commission the recent "Too Hot to Handle" tabletop exercise drew 13 attendees and took place in the new emergency services room at the Pendleton County General Services Center (PCGSC). Gillespie said the Extension Office has moved into new PCGSC offices and that moves for the PSD, Forestry and Wildlife offices are ahead of schedule; he suggested holding an open house for the PCGSC once the first phase of move-ins is complete. Commissioner Carl Hevener agreed and said the county should also have an open house for the courthouse annex.
County Administrator Karen Pitsenbarger reported the courthouse annex interior work is on schedule and anticipated to be complete by May 15, 2026. She said renovations to the original section of the courthouse, beginning in the Assessor’s Office, are planned to start May 18, 2026.
At the same meeting the commission signed Zero Total Tapes for election equipment to be used on Election Day, May 12, 2026. Later the commission entered executive session at 10:51 a.m. on a motion of Commissioner Carl Hevener to discuss personnel matters and adjourned the executive session at 12:15 p.m.; the transcript notes no decisions were made during the executive session.
These operational updates clear the way for public-facing events once move-ins and finishing work are complete; the commission remains scheduled to reconvene May 5, 2026.
