Council opened a public hearing on Ordinance 1568 to consider a zoning map amendment for Block and Lot 716-F-34 (8613 Peebles Road), a parcel owned by the North Allegheny School District adjacent to Peoples Elementary. The school district representatives presented a map showing the parcel and said the rezoning would consolidate it with other district property as part of a future development focused on improving the school entrance and site safety.
Craig Bishop (HRG), speaking for the district’s representatives, explained the request and displayed a plan showing the house and garage to be removed and how rezoning to a special district would align the parcel with the district’s other property. He said the change is intended to support a later main-development filing that would address pedestrian and vehicle safety at the school entrance.
During public comment, resident Allen Wright raised a concern that the ordinance’s effective-date language — phrased as “effective in accordance with law” — did not explicitly match the town code’s ten-day rule. The solicitor replied that the phrasing is commonly used in municipal ordinances to encompass the statute’s timing and that administration and legal staff would determine the precise effective date if necessary.
The hearing closed at the end of public comment; the ordinance was scheduled for council consideration on the June 22 agenda. There was no final council vote on the rezoning at this meeting.
