Committee endorses strategic plan focus areas, rates superintendent exemplary and elects new chair

The North Andover School Committee endorsed the district's strategic plan focus areas, gave the superintendent an overall annual rating of "Exemplary," and completed a leadership reorganization at the meeting.

Strategic plan: The committee endorsed the plan's five focus areas—teaching and learning; community engagement; resources, facilities and technology; communication; and culture and climate—along with the mission, vision and stated theory of action. The superintendent and plan team described next steps: flesh out objectives, assign roles by position (not by person), develop timelines and present a detailed roll-out in the fall. Committee members asked that the resulting implementation plan feed directly into budget requests and include measurable benchmarks.

Superintendent evaluation: Committee members reviewed goal-level progress and individual indicators across standards (instructional leadership; management and operations; family/community engagement; and professional indicators). After discussion and reconciling ratings, the committee voted to give Superintendent Lathrop an overall rating of "Exemplary" with goal-level notes (Goals 1 and 2 marked met; Goal 3 exceeded; Goal 4 significant progress) and exemplary marks across the four indicators presented on the record.

Reorganization: The committee then took floor nominations for chair, vice chair and clerk. Following nominations and a roll-call vote, the committee elected a new chair (recorded as a 3-2 vote), confirmed a vice chair and appointed the clerk.

Why it matters: Endorsing a strategic plan sets the district's multi-year priorities and guides budgetary and programmatic decisions. An exemplary superintendent evaluation signals strong board support and sets expectations for continued implementation.
