Council awards $470,289 construction management contract for Wadsworth shared-use path

Council voted June 8 to award a construction management contract for the Wadsworth Boulevard shared-use path project (32nd–35th avenues). Kent Kleman, public works director, told the council the project includes a detached sidewalk on the west side, new lighting, a bus pad, and mill-and-overlay of the roadway; it was designed to match an IGA with CDOT and is reimbursable through the DRCOG grant.
Kleman recommended awarding RockSaw Consulting Group a contract totaling $427,536.19 plus a 10% contingency of $42,753.62 for an approved total of $470,289.81. He said the city previously secured a $7.5 million DRCOG transportation grant for the corridor and that the city’s match is approximately $1 million. Kleman told council the project schedule envisions a pre-construction meeting in July and completion of most road work by year’s end, with some ditch work delayed until October.
Council moved and seconded the contract award; the clerk recorded the vote as "eight ayes, no nays." Councilors asked whether sidewalks will be installed on both sides (staff confirmed only the west side) and clarified right-of-way acquisition status (one parcel remained to close pending a final closing). The city will proceed to a pre-construction meeting with the general contractor and RockSaw when the procurement process is finalized.
The contract award authorizes staff to execute the agreement and use contingencies as needed; work is eligible for partial reimbursement under the DRCOG IGA. Staff will return with project updates and expected construction milestones.
