The Town of Rye Historic District Commission approved several routine items and elected officers at its May 13, 2026 meeting at Rye Town Hall.
Front steps: The commission voted that the Rye Congregational Church’s proposal to replace the front steps from bluestone to granite is a like-for-like replacement and therefore "of no interest" to the HDC; the motion was made by Kaitlyn Coffey and seconded by David Choate and was approved by unanimous voice vote.
Officer elections: The body elected its officers for the coming term. John Moynahan nominated Kaitlyn Coffey as chair (seconded by Karen Oliver); Karen Stewart nominated David Choate as vice-chair (seconded by James Tegeder); and David Choate nominated Karen Stewart as secretary (seconded by John Moynahan). Each nomination was approved by unanimous voice vote.
540 Washington Road roof: Mark Josephs presented a proposal to replace the roof on the house, barn and well house at 540 Washington Road and to replace skylights in the sunroom. The commission accepted the roof replacement as proposed as a like-for-like replacement. The motion was made by Kaitlyn Coffey, seconded by James Tegeder, and approved by voice vote.
Parsons Field sign: The Recreation Department requested permission to place a sign at Parsons Field advertising the Memorial Day ceremony. The Select Board had approved the request and the HDC voted to approve the sign; the motion was made by Kaitlyn Coffey and seconded by James Tegeder.
Adjournment: The commission adjourned at 6:22 p.m. on a motion by John Moynahan, seconded by Karen Stewart.
All recorded motions were described in the meeting minutes as carrying on unanimous 'all in favor' voice votes; the minutes do not list individual roll-call votes.
