Board adopts VDOT Secondary Six‑Year Plan; VDOT previews spring and summer road work

The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted the VDOT Secondary Six‑Year Plan for FY2027–2032 during the May 11 meeting and heard a status update from VDOT Resident Engineer Scott Frederick.
Frederick said VDOT crews have been conducting litter pickup on secondary roads followed by mowing and expect to finish the secondary system by Memorial Day, with primary route mowing to begin in mid‑June. Patching work has been completed and planned for Route 636, with contractor SL scheduled for additional patches and surface treatments later in the season. He said pipe replacements have been timed around seasonal in‑stream work windows and noted that Whitehurst is scheduled for surface treatments later in the year.
Frederick also reported that the bridge crew has replaced the timber deck on Pattie Road (Route 601) and is making beam repairs; the deck is expected to be replaced and the guardrail and paving restored in approximately two weeks. Supervisors thanked VDOT for the work and raised spot concerns, including requests to re‑inspect culverts on High Creek Road and sightline vegetation near Paynes Creek.
The Board opened the public hearing on the Six‑Year Plan but no citizens signed up; the Board then unanimously approved the plan by motion. The plan adopted by the Board includes multiple resurfacing projects, rural‑rustic surface treatments and countywide transportation services funding identified in VDOT’s project table.
VDOT will coordinate scheduling and contractors for the projects listed in the adopted plan. Constituents with specific road concerns were encouraged to contact VDOT’s resident engineer.
