Board authorizes remaining $9 million of solid-waste bond to fund landfill cell work

Muskegon County commissioners authorized the issuance of the remaining portion of a previously proposed $35 million limited-tax general obligation bond to fund capital work at the county solid-waste facility.
Public Works Director David Bosch told the board the county previously published intent for up to $35 million in bonds and has already issued portions of that amount; current authorization will secure the final approximately $9 million needed to construct Cell 7 and cap Cell 2. Bosch said the total cost for the work is expected to be slightly more than $9 million and that the remainder of the project will be paid from cash on hand.
Commissioners confirmed the motion was for authorization to secure issuance of the bonds; the action recorded in the meeting was approval of the resolution to authorize issuance. The motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the bond issuance process and related administrative steps to secure funding for the specified landfill capital projects.
