Skagit County hears positive public feedback on Concrete Community Center renovations funded by CDBG

Ken Hansen, the county’s facilities manager, told commissioners the project—funded with just over $1.1 million in CDBG funds—added a generator and backup coolers, converted heating to electric to allow cooling, upgraded bathrooms to ADA standards, and installed a shower and laundry area to support emergency-shelter use. "We have the generator, backup coolers," Hansen said, describing the changes that improve the facility’s emergency capacity.
Hansen said the improvements were well received during an open house in the community and that project work ran longer than expected because crews found issues typical of remodels. Commissioners thanked staff and the Department of Public Health (which submitted the grant application) and closed the public hearing after no public commenters appeared online or in the room.
What’s next: Because the public hearing produced no comments for or against the project, county staff will finalize the grant closeout materials and continue routine reporting to the Department of Commerce and other grant administrators.
