The Community Development Committee approved a special‑event permit request from Beyond Productions to capture B‑roll footage in downtown O'Fallon and nearby parks June 16–19, including potential drone shots.
Abigail Klene said the crew (Gabrielle and Sam) intends to film locations that include Lincoln Avenue, State Street, Ogul's Creek Park and Roxings Park and may use drone footage "depending on the weather." She noted that the city's ordinance limits drone flights over parks and that the special‑event permit covers drone usage with coordination from public safety.
Council members asked what triggered the permit when streets would not be closed; staff replied that drone operations required permitting. The permit passed on a roll‑call vote and will appear again at the June 15 full council meeting for final reading.
Staff noted the production also interviewed city staff and will include some footage in an upcoming feature; staff said the episode is expected to air around July 4.
Next step: the permit will be scheduled for the June 15 full council reading and public safety will coordinate any drone flights.
