Audubon County to place new Veterans Affairs director in Exira; interim director outlines transition

The Audubon County Board of Supervisors on June 11 heard that Stacey Harris Molina has been hired as the county’s new Veterans Affairs director and will begin next month, Interim VA Director Beth Watson said.
Watson told the board she and county commissioners have held monthly interviews since April to fill the position and explained that the role will require mandatory out‑of‑state training. She said VA grant funds were used to purchase new office equipment, furniture and a fireproof safe, and that the county is considering locating the Veterans Affairs office in Exira at the Public Health office space “to meet code and be easily accessible for everyone.”
The board unanimously approved a $200 retroactive reimbursement covering five years for eight veteran grave listings in Hamlin, after Auditor staff updated the graves list. Watson said Audubon VA Commissioner Kyle Hinners will represent the office in the Exira Fourth of July parade, and that she will continue to work with the county to settle and train the new director.
The county did not set a firm start date in the meeting minutes beyond “next month,” and Watson said she expects additional coordination and onboarding meetings on July 3. No formal policy change governing the VA office location was adopted at the meeting; the board recorded the hire and the small reimbursement vote.
