Superintendent Michael Wegher reported to the board that the district submitted an infrastructure grant application requesting $31 million from a statewide $100 million pool. Separately, Stacy Vespremi, Director of State and Federal Programs, reviewed the district's primary grant categories — federal Title I through IV, state funds including Section 31A and Section 41, and competitive and formula grants — and how those funds are deployed: personnel (instructional coaches, intervention staff), homeless transportation, professional learning, CTE equipment and EL supports. Trustees asked about transportation costs, grant amounts and funding formulas; Vespremi noted potential Section 31A changes under state budget recommendations and that Section 41 changes may require additional ESL endorsement support for staff.
The board was also told the Universal FAFSA Challenge grant requires a district policy update to remain compliant and preserve funding; administration presented policy revisions for that purpose and the board approved them later in the meeting.
What happens next: administration will continue to refine grant-related policy and staffing plans, track any state budget changes that affect Section 31A and Section 41 funding, and implement any compliance steps required to secure the Universal FAFSA Challenge grant.
