Taylor School District board approves four MOUs to expand teacher supports, summer help and attendance agents

The Taylor School District Board of Education on March 18 unanimously approved four memoranda of understanding to expand teacher training, staff support and attendance services.
Superintendent Michael Wegher presented two grant-funded agreements with the Taylor Federation of Teachers to support teacher development: an ESL endorsement program through the #TEACH alternative pathway and an Administrator Leadership Certificate through the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals Path to Leadership alternative pathway, which the district said will support up to five eligible teachers. Mr. Wegher told the board that categorical or grant funds are expected to fully cover the costs.
Board members also approved two agreements with the 26M support staff union. One establishes temporary extra summer help in Division A – Maintenance to cover summer work and vacations; another formalizes grant-funded Attendance Agent positions, which administration said contributed to reductions in chronic absenteeism and are maintained as exempt positions consistent with grant conditions.
Each motion passed on unanimous 7-0 votes. The ESL MOU was moved by Board President Linda Moore and supported by Vice President Korey Morris. The Administrator Leadership MOU was moved by Kathie Fields and supported by Mr. Morris. The extra-summer-help MOU was moved by Mark Westphal and supported by Ms. Fields. The Attendance Agent MOU was moved by Ms. Fields and supported by Ms. Moore. The consent agenda — including minutes, bills, personnel reports, field trips and conferences — was also approved 7-0.
Board members did not identify any additional local funding obligations for these agreements at the meeting; the superintendent indicated the programs rely on categorical and grant funding. The board did not take any amendments to the agreements during the session.
The board listed the agreements among its action items and approved them during the portion of the meeting covering action items and consent business. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
